Children of Asaph is a collective of gifted musicians dedicated to revitalizing congregational singing within traditional worship settings. Their mission is to bridge the gap between traditional and contemporary worship styles, creating a unified and meaningful worship experience that honors the past while embracing the present.
Through intentional assessment, the group evaluates the unique needs of each congregation they serve and designs experiences that strengthen musical participation, theological understanding, and worship leadership. Children of Asaph offers three focused workshops tailored to support and empower churches:
· Hymnfest – An engaging exploration of hymns that renews appreciation for traditional sacred music while encouraging active congregational participation.
· Praise and Worship Workshops – Instruction designed to help worship leaders and musicians integrate contemporary expressions of praise within a traditional worship framework.
· Choir Workshops – Training sessions that equip choirs with vocal technique, musical excellence, and spiritual depth for effective worship leadership.
Through these workshops, Children of Asaph seeks to inspire congregations to sing boldly, worship authentically, and experience the power of music as a vital expression of faith.

Reverend Dr. Alonzo B. Taylor’s life is a testament to faith, music, service, and dedication. Born to the late John Taylor and Shelia Taylor in Edison, Georgia, his journey began with a deep connection to music at an early age. At just eight years old, he began studying piano under the guidance of Mrs. O. P. Prather in Cuthbert, Georgia. What started as early instruction soon revealed a lifelong calling. By the age of sixteen, his musical gifts had already opened doors, and he was hired as a church musician at Bethel A.M.E. Church in Fort Gaines, Georgia.
After graduating from Randolph-Clay High School in Cuthbert, Georgia, Reverend Dr. Taylor continued his educational journey at Morris Brown College in Atlanta, Georgia. There, his passion for music flourished. He joined the Morris Brown College Concert Choir and, in 1999, was selected as student director under the mentorship of Dr. Sharon J. Willis. During his college years, he refined his vocal abilities through study with Dr. Oliver N. Greene and Alteouise DeVaughn. In 2002, he earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Music Education with a concentration in vocal performance.
Following graduation, Reverend Dr. Taylor committed himself to music education, accepting a position with the Atlanta Public Schools System as an elementary music teacher. What began as a calling soon became a lifelong mission. He is now in his 21st year of teaching, shaping young minds and nurturing creativity through music.
While at Morris Brown College, his musical journey also extended to the operatic stage. He joined the Americolor Opera Alliance, performing in productions such as The Opera Singer, The Herndons, Laroche, Three Kings and a Prince, King Solomon, and Pink Lady. In 2005, he made his solo debut in the role of Gus in The Great Divide. Beyond opera, he expanded his performance experience as a member of TTB, an ensemble with Kevin Tucker and Jonathan Blanchard.
Ministry has remained central to Reverend Dr. Taylor’s life. Over the years, he has served numerous churches throughout the Metro Atlanta area, including All Good Road United Methodist Church, Peace Lutheran Church, and Riverdale First United Methodist Church. His longest tenures were as Minister of Music at St. Mark Lutheran Church and as Director of the Cathedral Choir at Central United Methodist Church. Today, he continues his service at Central United Methodist Church as Director of the United Voices Gospel Choir and the Adoration Praise Team, while also serving as Director of the Morris Brown College Concert Choir.
Committed to lifelong learning, Reverend Dr. Taylor pursued advanced theological and educational training. He holds a Master of Teaching degree from Grand Canyon University, as well as a Master of Biblical Counseling and a Master of Divinity from Luther Rice Seminary. He later earned a Doctor of Music Education degree from Liberty University, further uniting his passions for faith, scholarship, and music.
In addition to his civilian service, Reverend Dr. Taylor proudly served as a member of the United States Army Forces for 15 years and was commissioned as a chaplain candidate in 2009, extending his ministry to those in uniform.
At the heart of his life is family. Reverend Dr. Taylor has been married to his wife, Zipporah, for 20 years, and together they are raising three sons—Micah, John, and Timothy—instilling in them the same values of faith, discipline, and purpose that have guided his own remarkable journey.
